The wings used are sourced from conservatories around the globe with government permission in their native countries. They are all managed by the wildlife authorities of those countries, to encourage ecologically healthy practices to ensure growing populations of threatened and non-threatened species.

Forged By Nature is committed to wildlife education and preservation therefore a portion of each sale goes to Wildlife Preservation Canada.

This real butterfly wing ring features an Red Lacewing butterfly wing that has a sophisticated black and red colour palette. It has been encased in resin to create this beautiful necklace. Pendant measures is approximately 1" long.

Please note that because the butterfly wing did once belong to a living butterfly, there may be slight markings or small tears. These should not be considered flaws as they are natural and proof that the wing once belonged to a flying butterfly. In saying that, I do carefully select the wings I use and make sure they are aesthetically pleasing.

The ring is adjustable and therefore a size is not required upon order.

I encase each wing in resin, because I do this by hand small bubbles can sometimes occur. Rather than looking at this as a fault, consider it part of the handmade charm.

Cethosia biblis is medium-sized butterfly, with a wingspan reaching about 8–9 centimetres (3.1–3.5 in). In this species the sexes are dimorphic. In males the dorsal sides of the wings are bright orange red, framed by a black outline with white spots. The undersides range from bright red to pale brown, interlaced by black and white. This astonishing pattern helps to disguise the shape of the butterfly, while the intense colour of the dorsal sides of the wings is a warning to predators that the red lacewing has a bad taste, deriving from the poisonous host plants of the caterpillars. The dorsal sides of the wings of the females are greyish-brownish with black spots and white bands and spots on the black margins.
